Defensive Tackle. Alabama. Quinnen Williams. 4. player. 28.

The Oakland Raiders vastly improved their roster in free agency, adding prolific wide receiver Antonio Brown via a fleecing trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers and signing offensive tackle Trent Brown to help protect embattled quarterback Derek Carr.

Those moves help, but it’s hard to ignore head coach Jon Gruden’s defense still stinks. And despite whatever moves he and the Raiders make during the NFL Draft, Gruden will still receive flak for dishing off EDGE Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears last season.

Replacing Mack is something Oakland will have plenty of chances to do in this draft, particularly with three first-round picks.

That said, talent is more important than need when there are so many cases of the latter. And with Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams patiently waiting on the board at No. 4 overall, it’s a no-brainer choice.

Williams would be an immediate anchor along the Raiders defensive front, and this is precisely what NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein thought Oakland would do in his latest mock.

The Raiders can still build at all three levels with later picks and a deep defensive class. For now, they get a player many saw as a prospect with even more upside than Nick Bosa.
