This could get interesting if the Cardinals were to take Nick Bosa. Since they don’t, however, the 49ers are in a perfect position to simply grab the best player available.

In this case, it’s this year’s top prospect.

Now, there’s going to be a bit of a logjam along the Niners defensive line. Keep in mind, San Francisco already four first-round draftees in play to start 2019: DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead, Solomon Thomas and the recently acquired Dee Ford.

Out of that foursome, however, only Ford and Buckner have established themselves as bona fide contributors a team would want to build around. Armstead is in a contract year, while Thomas has mostly underwhelmed after being taken third overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Good front offices admit when it’s time to move on from a player, and that might be the case for general manager John Lynch with either Armstead or Thomas if Bosa winds up being the selection.

Besides, one can only envision a situation where the 49ers employ Ford on the weak-side edge-rushing spot, Buckner along the interior and Bosa rushing from the strong-side 5-technique spot.

Such a move would help make San Francisco’s defensive line one of the most formidable units in the league today.
