With the 2019 NFL Draft fast approaching, Niner Noise breaks down five prospects the San Francisco 49ers may target in Round 2.

The San Francisco 49ers currently own the No. 36 pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. And with the draft just over the horizon, there is some conjecture as to what position the Niners will likely target with their high second-round pick.

The most likely option sees the 49ers take an explosive wide receiver with their second pick. The ranks of the wide receivers gained a boost with the signing of Jordan Matthews during free agency, with the veteran receiver expected to add some much-needed depth and experience.

His ability to score touchdowns in the red zone should also further improve the chances of the Niners getting some points on the board. However, even with the addition of Matthews, another young stud receiver wouldn’t go astray.

Alternatively, with the 49ers unwilling to sign a big-name safety during free agency, do we see them take one of the draft’s top safety prospects with the No. 36 pick to help bolster their secondary. While it would be a surprise if they didn’t address both positions during the draft, it still remains an unknown as to what order they will make their picks.

Further down the list of needs, you can look to the offensive line where picking up a guard probably wouldn’t hurt, something Niner Noise’s Jeremy Wohlfart touched on. Whereas most positions within the defense could also be improved upon to some degree.

With the pressure building on head coach Kyle Shanahan and in particular general manager John Lynch, they really do need to get this draft right. Selecting players who fill a need and will add value to the team is of the utmost importance.

And although everyone has their own lists and ideas of what the 49ers should do come the draft, I’ve put together five players the Niners may take a look at to use that No. 36 pick on.
