San Francisco 49ers: Post-free agency 2019 NFL Draft mock
By Peter Panacy
The top-drafting Arizona Cardinals ended up following all the speculation as of late, taking Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray at No. 1 overall.
San Francisco 49ers
That leaves the 49ers to do whatever they want with the No. 2 overall pick. And while there’s a solid argument John Lynch should grab Josh Allen, who could easily occupy the vacant strong-side (SAM) linebacker position — a spot at which he played at Kentucky — the simple maneuver is to grab the consensus No. 1 prospect in this year’s NFL Draft, Nick Bosa.
Bosa is arguably the most NFL-ready player in this year’s class. And while San Francisco solved its edge-rushing needs to a point, trading for Dee Ford, one can recall how he had just two double-digit sack campaigns in his five-year career up to this point.
And there’s always the argument of adding multiple pass-rushers when possible.
Ford is currently projected to handle weak-side pass-rushing duties at the 49ers’ LEO spot. That’s what Bosa would occupy, though, which could push Ford to the opposite side in passing situations.
Keep in mind, however, that more than a handful of stout defensive teams employ this kind of alignment. The Denver Broncos, with EDGEs Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, is one such franchise.
And by grabbing Bosa, the 49ers would be trying to replicate this approach, too.
