Kentucky. Josh Allen. 3. player. 30. . EDGE

There are going to be those who feel Kentucky EDGE Josh Allen is the next best NFL Draft prospect behind Nick Bosa, and some may view him as the best overall for this April.

Allen’s bend and athleticism are ridiculous. No questioning that at all. And after a solid junior year back in 2017, Allen’s decision to return for one more year was the right one, as he propelled up the scouting charts following an impressive 17.0-sack campaign, including three sacks during Kentucky’s 2019 Citrus Bowl win over Penn State.

Going back and watching some of Allen’s film, however, revealed a good chunk of those sacks came from complete whiffs or breakdowns in protection. This one is a perfect example.

Now, none of this is to say Allen is a bad player. Not at all. But it does push him down a spot in this mock draft, which is great news for the New York Jets. And if Allen winds up having the kind of NFL Scouting Combine players dream about, it’s surely possible his draft stock rises to a point where either the 49ers or Cardinals consider him with their respective picks.

For now, though, Allen stays at No. 3.

The Jets need offensive weapons for quarterback Sam Darnold, sure. But there aren’t any of value within the top three picks. Meanwhile, addressing the pass rush should also be a top priority. Grabbing Allen here makes more than enough sense.
