2019 NFL Draft: Two-round, 32-team mock amid scouting combine
By Peter Panacy
The Green Bay Packers have a bit of a tough decision here. Their defense needs a lot of work. It’s likely they’ll address the outside pass rush, particularly if EDGE Clay Matthews leaves in free agency. Replacing former safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is probably on the to-do list, and one would guess banking on cornerback Kevin King hasn’t worked out to desired expectations.
Thankfully, these three positions are relatively deep. So Green Bay, depending on what happens at the NFL Scouting Combine, elects to take a gamble — they own another pick later in Round 1 — hoping a good pass-rusher is available with their second pick.
Instead, the Packers look for an upgrade at cornerback, grabbing LSU’s Greedy Williams at No. 12 overall.
Williams’ straight-line speed will be something to watch at the combine. If he excels here, his overall stock should improve after a slight dip, which could change Green Bay’s plans. Still, LSU has a long history of developing quality defensive backs, and the Packers would be wise to take advantage of that.
