2019 NFL Draft: Power ranking top 10 edge rushers for 49ers
By Peter Panacy
Another small-school prospect, Old Dominion’s Oshane Ximines is another player who has watched his NFL Draft stock rise in recent weeks.
One of the marks Ximines has going for him is consistency, as the fifth-year senior has upped his sack totals regularly, posting 5.0 in 2015 to having 11.5 in 2018.
At 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, Ximines doesn’t have the best first step and also struggles with the same bend Jaylon Ferguson deals with. Yet Ximines also wins with excellent hand movement, and his variety of pass-rush moves are good enough to suggest he can be a first-round pick.
Particularly if he excels in individual drills at the NFL Scouting Combine and at his pro day.
One of the problems with Ximines, though, is he’s kind of a tweener. It’s hard to say if he’d thrive better as a 3-4 outside linebacker, physically, or a traditional 4-3 end. Coverage isn’t his thing, so the latter seems to pose a better future for Ximines. But his body type doesn’t suggest he could handle it on a regular basis.
Still, situational pass-rushers have a lot of value in today’s NFL. Ximines is poised to be just that.
