No. 5: T.J. Hockenson, Tight End, Iowa

Regular visitors to this website would know I wrote an article on how Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson could be exactly what the 49ers offense needs, after our own Peter Panacy wrote an article where Hockenson was named one of the candidates for the team’s selection at No. 36.

You might also note this is an article about players that the 49ers would move up into the first round for.

Truthfully, if Hockenson aces the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, it would be very unlikely in the extreme that he could be available in the second round.

Hockenson has the ability to do everything ace Niners tight end George Kittle can also do. He’s got good speed, good hands, fantastic route running, is a stout blocker in the running game and he has the ability to transform the game in a single play.

He would take some of the attention that Kittle will no doubt attract from opposing defenses next season, as well as take attention off the receivers in the red zone, while being a great target there himself.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan is one of the top offensive minds in the NFL, and it would be exciting to see what he could devise for a two-tight end set containing two such amazingly talented players.
