The Carolina Panthers were flat-out bad in sack production last year, picking up just 35 over the course of the year, which ranked 27th in the league. And with one of their storied pass-rushers, Julius Peppers, hitting the twilight of his career and retiring, it’s time Carolina looks to find a long-term replacement to get after the many talented quarterbacks in the NFC South.

The top outside pass-rusher on the board midway through Round 1 is Florida’s Jachai Polite, who has some of the most violent pass-rushing moves out of any of the top prospects.

Polite was a force in 2018, picking up 11.0 sacks and also registering 19.5 tackles for a loss. It’s a complete opposite of his name, if you’re looking for puns. He’s not polite in the trenches at all.

The Panthers have plenty of other needs, revealed largely by the 1-7 finish to wrap up the regular season. Addressing the defensive backfield is a must, too, although Polite’s presence would serve to take a lot of pressure off that underperforming unit.
