Round 6, Pick No. 184 Overall: Linebacker Jacob Martin

Original Pick: Safety Marcell Harris

Despite some early struggles after missing his 2017 collegiate campaign and the first half of his rookie year, strong safety Marcell Harris might wind up being a very nice player for San Francisco in coming seasons, potentially competing for a starting job alongside Jaquiski Tartt this offseason.

But by picking Derwin James way back in Round 1, a Harris selection by the Niners would be a bit redundant.

Instead, the 49ers could have looked to reinforcing what became a banged-up linebacking corps over the course of 2018.

Adding Fred Warner helped. Still, this unit went through a lot of attrition and could have used some added help. Two picks later, the Seahawks grabbed linebacker Jacob Martin out of Temple, and he thrived in a reserve and situational role for head coach Pete Carroll’s defense, picking up three sacks and eight quarterback hits while forcing two fumbles.
