No. 5: 49ers trade the second overall selection to the Broncos for the 10th overall selection and EDGE Von Miller

John Elway‘s first draft as general manager of the Denver Broncos was in 2011. In that time. Elway has drafted five quarterbacks.

None of them are still on the Broncos roster.

Career journeyman quarterback Case Keenum was signed by Denver during the 2018 offseason. After a lackluster 6-10 season, in which Keenum threw 18 touchdowns and 15 interception, the Broncos should be aggressive in finding his replacement. Their best bet is the draft, and with a new head coach, change at the position wouldn’t be shocking.,

With the 10th overall selection, Elway will have to add a lot to sweeten any deal his fellow Stanford alum, John Lynch, may accept. EDGE Von Miller is pure cane sugar.

It was reported that Elway would potentially shop the 30-year-old pass-rusher. Perhaps no other player could justify such a deal other than a highly touted quarterback prospect. The excellent season of rookie EDGE Bradley Chubb would soften the blow of this deal.  While Elway is determined to get off the quarterback draft schneid, this is a long shot. Let’s play devil’s advocate, though.

The 49ers fall back to the 10th selection, and after adding Miller, don’t have to focus on a pass-rusher. To me, the pick comes down to two players, both out of LSU. Desperate for help in the defensive backfield, the Niners take cornerback Greedy Williams over his teammate, linebacker Devin White.
