5 players 49ers should watch in 2019 College Football National Championship
No. 1: Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama
I’ve gone on about Quinnen Williams to the 49ers before, so I’ll make this one brief so I don’t bore everyone with my constant drooling.
Williams has a case to be the best player in this NFL Draft class, and at worst, he’s the easy second best. He is an absolute monster in the interior capable of causing havoc single-handedly.
The Niners could have one of the best interior defensive duos in DeForest Buckner and Williams, and can cause whoever is on the outside to deal with less attention as the focus would be on the interior.
Williams really has no weakness. He is a disruptive presence on the interior and plays with a relentless intensity, he boasts a variety of pass-rush moves and shows and incredible burst of speed and athleticism to beat interior linemen after the snap.
The interest is twofold for the 49ers: Either they can pick him up and have one of the best defensive prospects in years, or Williams can make the Cardinals look long and hard at him and cause other blue chipper, Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa, to fall to the 49ers.
The Cardinals have Chandler Jones rushing the passer, Bosa would be an upgrade on the other end as well as the eventual successor. But Williams could be the man they decide to partner with Jones as well.
Nothing is certain in the NFL, and that’s what makes this exciting.
Pros: Arguably best player in draft, elite pass rusher, physical powerhouse, no real weaknesses, would create a monster duo with Buckner
Cons: Not a real position of need, could possibly be off the board for the 49ers
