No. 3: Tre Lamar, Linebacker, Clemson

Why the 49ers should be interested

The 49ers have the exciting young leader of the future in Fred Warner, but the rest of the linebacking group is in need of upgrading.

Tre Lamar is an incredibly talented linebacker, who offers appeal as a blitzing linebacker as well as a run stuffer. He has some liabilities in coverage, as Clemson don’t use him in such a way, but Warner can show off his already impressive leadership skills and help Lamar get settled into that area.

Lamar has amazing measurables for a linebacker as well. He boasts 32.5-inch arms, 9.5-inch hands and a wing span of 78 inches, while coming in at 6-foot-3 and 243 pounds.

Lamar plays with a style the Niners desperately need, as they have been pushed around by some teams this season and could use a lot more physicality and tackling in their front seven. Lamar fits this style perfectly and can play in a 4-3 defense.

Pros: Mean streak, shows blitzing ability, strong tackler, athletically amazing
Cons: Lacking in coverage, not overly impressive at Clemson, slow 40 time (4.65)

49ers could select him in: Rounds 2 or 3
