San Francisco 49ers: Power ranking the top 30 players of 2018
By Aaron Tan
Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was rightfully hyped up prior to the start of the 2018 season. He had improved his route-running skills like crazy from the start of 2017, showed off reliable hands and was arguably the fastest player in the league.
However, he took a major step back this season, all starting with the quad injury he suffered in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. When he came back in Week 3, Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL and it just went downhill from there. He started losing targets and snaps to the point where he was the fourth receiver to enter the game (behind wideouts Dante Pettis, Kendrick Bourne and Trent Taylor) against the Chicago Bears in Week 16. He later committed a crucial drop that greatly changed the momentum of the game.
He is still on this list because he still carries a lot of upside with him. His role as a deep threat gave him four receiving touchdowns this season, and his chemistry with Garoppolo is undeniable.
Goodwin should still retain a role on the offense in 2019 once he gets everything together.
