18. team. 42. . . . Offensive Guard Laken Tomlinson

Following former Niners offensive guard Zane Beadles’ abomination of a performance in Week 1 of 2017 against the Carolina Panthers, general manager John Lynch decided to trade a 2019 fifth-round draft pick to the Detroit Lions for Laken Tomlinson, a former first-round “bust.”

Tomlinson slid into the starting lineup and was an immediate upgrade over Beadles, playing well enough throughout the course of the season to earn a three-year extension this past offseason.

He started all 16 games for the 49ers this year and continued his solid play. He did give up his fair share of quarterback pressures, but consistently provided lanes for running backs to go through and maintained a good playing standard throughout the season.

Let’s hope he recovers well from his torn MCL.
