By Aaron Tan
As we look forward to the San Francisco 49ers’ 2019 season, Niner Noise takes a look back at 2018 and breaks down the team’s top 30 players, NFL power rankings style.
Even though it was a disappointing season for the San Francisco 49ers, 2018 proved to be a good year for player evaluation. Many players regressed, some improved and others stayed the same. For the most part, rookies shined.
And a lot of players got hurt.
No season is a lost season because, if you’re the coach or general manager, you can still get the idea of what your players are made of. You start listing certain players as priority re-signings or extension candidates and others as surefire cuts, so you can start addressing those positions in the offseason.
So even though it was not the year any of us wanted, I decided to reflect on the past football season and compile a player power rankings to rank current 49ers based on their 2018 performances and the upside that they bring to the future of the team. Most players who missed the majority of the season, such as running back Jerick McKinnon and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, will be left off the list.
Here are 2018’s top 30 San Francisco 49ers.
