Kentucky. Josh Allen. 2. player. 42. . EDGE

The 49ers would have been thrilled if the Cardinals elected to pass on Nick Bosa. That could happen, of course, but common judgment says otherwise.

After finishing the year with a mere 37 sacks and in clear need of a quality outside pass rush, general manager John Lynch goes with arguably the second best edge rusher in this year’s draft class.

And that’s Kentucky’s Josh Allen.

Allen’s stock has skyrocketed after his 14.0-sack campaign this year, and the 6-foot-5, 260-pound pass-rusher boasts all the necessary traits to make him a worthwhile top commodity in today’s pass-happy NFL. He’s fast, has a quick twitch, a variety of pass-rushing moves and the strength to make it all come together.

With three other first-round picks (DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas), the 49ers may wind up fielding one of the best defensive fronts in the league in 2019, provided Allen is the pick.
