No. 4: Upgrade the cornerback position for the future

Why this makes sense

The 49ers have cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to man one side of the field in the future, but fellow corner Richard Sherman can’t play forever.

Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker has rocketed up NFL Draft boards, and if he keeps up his current momentum, he could become a top five pick. He’s got good length and speed, and is arguably the best player on an impressive Georgia Bulldogs team.

Sherman needs a prodigy, and Baker fits the kind of player who can thrive in the 49ers’ system.

Why it may not happen

The Niners have some intriguing corner prospects as it is on the outside in Tarvarius Moore as well as Tarvarus McFadden on the practice squad. Both could yet stake a claim to being the successor to Sherman.

Depending on if Moore could continue his surprisingly good form replacing Witherspoon in the final two games, or if the team has a lot of faith in McFadden, the team may be better off looking elsewhere.
