Stock Down: Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon

It’s more of a shame Ahkello Witherspoon suffered his knee injury in Week 15, particularly after a solid four-game stretch after a good chunk of struggles earlier this season.

Witherspoon went down in the first quarter trying to tackle Seahawks running back Chris Carson within the 49ers’ 10-yard line. The second-year corner required medical staff to assist him walking off the field, and later reports indicated Witherspoon suffered a knee sprain and will likely miss the rest of 2018.

Fortunately, there’s no apparent major damage.

Still, it’s a bad blow for Witherspoon who had done a lot in recent weeks to turn his stock around considerably.

If there’s any consolation, though, those weeks of improvement all but assured the cornerback a legitimate part of San Francisco’s future plans.

He’s no longer to be viewed as a castoff player in 2019.
