Defensive Tackle. Alabama. Quinnen Williams. 3. player. 28.

It’s almost impossible to speculate what Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden will do at quarterback. Is Derek Carr in Gruden’s long-term plans when the team moves to Las Vegas? It’s rarely a good idea to trade a franchise signal-caller, but Gruden has already shocked the NFL world by moving EDGE Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears, so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

For now, Carr stays put. And for a team needing all kinds of help on the defensive side of the ball, Gruden and Co. need to take advantage of a top defensive pickup with their top selection.

There’s nothing wrong with taking the best player available either. Fortunately for Oakland, Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams should be an easy decision.

Williams is currently ranked the No. 2 overall player on ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s big board, and he wrote:

"Williams has been one of college football’s best players — not just defenders — this season. He dominated LSU with 2.5 sacks and 10 total tackles earlier this month, and he now has seven sacks and 16 tackles for loss on the season. He flew under the radar before the season because he played limited snaps in the Crimson Tide’s rotation in 2017, racking up 6.5 tackles for loss."

Simply put, Williams is a wrecking ball-type player — the same caliber of player Mack used to be, and the kind of presence the Raiders can look to build around for their front seven.
