The Los Angeles Chargers don’t have a ton of needs, at least not in the short term. True, they might want to start thinking about a young quarterback to eventually replace the veteran, Philip Rivers, at some point. And the offensive line isn’t quite where it needs to be.

That said, taking advantage of some massively talented interior defenders this early in the NFL Draft would be a smart move. L.A. doesn’t have to worry too much about its edge rush, particularly with Joey Bosa returning from a foot injury and being paired with fellow EDGE Melvin Ingram. And the secondary is looking good, especially if the team brings back injured cornerback Jason Verrett and continues to develop the outstanding rookie, Derwin James.

But defensive tackle Brandon Mebane is entering the final year of his contract, and it’s hard to see the Chargers re-signing him. Instead, grabbing someone like Clemson’s Christian Wilkins makes plenty of sense.

Remember how good Clemson’s D-line is this year?

Wilkins would do fine in L.A.
