Having fun yet, Oakland?

Yes, the third of the Raiders’ three first-round NFL Draft picks still focuses on the defense. Why wouldn’t it?

This is one of those selections received in the Khalil Mack trade, and Oakland has already made moves to address the front seven. It’s time now to take care of some back-end needs within the secondary.

Mel Kiper’s best remaining defensive back at this point in the draft is Notre Dame’s Julian Love who, at 5-foot-11 and 193 pounds, likely projects to a nickel cornerback or safety at the next level. His coverage skills are OK, not great, and his speed is likely a little less than desirable. If he has a strong showing at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see him slip into the latter stages of Round 1.

Either way, the Raiders have thrown a lot of wasted effort into their secondary the past few years, so even a modest improvement in a player like Love would help matters greatly.
