No. 3: Linebacker Anthony Barr

The loss of linebacker Reuben Foster was a big blow on many fronts. Focusing primarily on the field, he loomed large in the team’s defensive plans for next year and beyond. Linebacker is suddenly a position in much need of an upgrade.

Of the remaining free-agent linebackers, the Minnesota Vikings Anthony Barr would be an immediate improvement.

The ninth overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft, The former UCLA Bruin is only 26 years old. He has the acceleration and sideline-to-sideline lateral pursuit abilities to gain ground even when out of position. A true athlete and three-time Pro Bowler, Barr would be an excellent mentor and playmaker to pair with current 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.
