No. 3: Select Clemson EDGE Clelin Ferrell

While Nick Bosa might be the top overall NFL Draft prospect in 2018, one could make the argument Clemson EDGE Clelin Ferrell is the better all-around player.

The reason being is Ferrell is a definite three-down player, certainly adept at rushing the passer but also making serious impacts against the running game — the combination of skills shown below:

Quality pass-rushers are premium commodities in today’s pass-happy NFL, and Ferrell checks off that box with 10.5 sacks, and counting, this season. But the ability to defend effectively against the run only serves to increase the 49ers’ investment return should they elect to go with Ferrell over a player like Bosa.

Plus, for those concerned about Bosa’s recent injury status, targeting someone like Ferrell in this situation would make some sense.

And if you’re thinking about a trade-down scenario to make it more likely and of better value, just click the next slide.
