Beathard beats the blitz, and Goodwin takes the top off the Green Bay Packers’ defense in play No. 5.
After missing Week 5 due to quadriceps and hamstring injuries, Goodwin made his presence known on Monday Night Football in Week 6. Goodwin’s first touchdown of the night came when the Packers brought a cornerback blitz in the first quarter of the game.
Cornerback Kevin King lined up in press coverage against Goodwin, and blitzed once the ball was snapped, but the corner was easily picked up by Juszczyk. Goodwin cut inside linebacker Clay Matthews, who failed to get a hand on the receiver who then broke open past linebacker Blake Martinez, who was dropping deep into coverage.
After Goodwin passed the linebacker, he broke to the inside and away from Packers safety Kentrell Brice. With the advantage of a clean pocket, Beathard heaved the ball high into the air in Goodwin’s direction.
Goodwin was able to track the deep pass, which he caught in stride down the middle of the field. Brice made a last-ditch attempt to dive at the feet of the receiver, but Goodwin cruised into the end zone for a 67-yard touchdown, which put the 49ers within striking distance of Green Bay.
