49ers injury news

The 49ers’ injury situation is much clearer in advance of their Week 10 matchup on Monday Night Football, as a number of players are back to full strength after playing through injuries in previous weeks.

However, San Francisco’s coaching staff is using the team’s upcoming Week 11 bye to rest three starters who regularly play integral roles for the team; while two of these starters missed last week’s game, the third was able to suit up last Thursday, but will be rested tonight in the hopes of returning in Week 12 after 16 days of rest.

WILL linebacker Reuben Foster is officially ruled out due to a hamstring injury, although the second-year player’s shoulder injury also likely played a role in his absence from tonight’s game. SAM linebacker Malcolm Smith and LB Elijah Lee should see more action with Foster sidelined.

Strong safety Jaquiski Tartt will miss another game thanks to his shoulder injury. Defensive back Antone Exum, who was absent last week due to a concussion, will likely start at free safety for the 49ers, as safety Tyvis Powell, who replaced Tartt last week, was waived by San Francisco earlier this afternoon. Safety Marcell Harris is also available after his recent return from injured reserve.

After catching his first touchdown pass of the season in Week 9, San Francisco wide receiver Pierre Garcon will miss Monday’s game due to a knee injury. The absence of Garcon, who has battled multiple injuries throughout the season, will mean more playing time for wideout Kendrick Bourne and rookie Dante Pettis.

Outside of these three players, the 49ers should have access to the remainder of their active roster for tonight’s Monday Night Football game.

49ers injury news will be updated throughout the day, as information is released.
