it was a bit of a surprise to see John Lynch take the route of former general manager Trent Baalke and select an ACL-injured player relatively high in the NFL Draft.

NC State defensive tackle Kentavius Street has plenty of strength, yes. But he tore his ACL at his pro day, rendering him all but useless to the 49ers’ plans for 2018.

And all fans need to do is recall how so many of Baalke’s former “All-ACL” picks never panned out after being selected.

Street could bounce back and wind up being a nice rotational piece in San Francisco’s defense. That would be nice. But it’s also just as possible he winds up being something of a wasted pick like so many of those other injury reaches.

Let’s hope for the former.

In the meantime, Street gets an incomplete grade.
