No. 3: 49ers Wide Receivers Aren’t a Factor in 2018

Week 7 revealed yet another glaring 49ers weakness this season — wide receivers haven’t been a positive impact on a consistent basis.

Entering Week 7, veteran wideout Pierre Garçon led this unit with 20 catches for 225 yards. Fellow receiver Marquise Goodwin, who has missed substantial time this season with various injuries, just passed the 200-yard mark after recording two catches for just 24 yards against the Rams.

Oh, and those 24 yards led all 49ers wide receivers in the game. That’s a stat.

Garçon had one catch for five yards. Slot receiver Trent Taylor cracked the stat sheet with a catch for six yards. That’s about it.

Goodwin does make a massive difference for Kyle Shanahan’s offense, yes. And when C.J. Beathard either isn’t hitting his targets or is inaccurate, the receiving numbers ultimately suffer. But a bit of blame has to be assigned to San Francisco’s wideouts for the lack of contributions this deep into 2018.

Tack on another offseason need for the Niners.
