The San Francisco 49ers host the red-hot and undefeated Los Angeles Rams at Levi’s Stadium in Week 7. Despite the mismatch, there are ways the Niners can pull off the upset.

OK, it’s probably not going to happen. And the most realistic way the San Francisco 49ers pull out an improbable victory over the undefeated Los Angeles Rams at Levi’s Stadium in Week 7 is if head coach Sean McVay’s squad doesn’t show up to the game or half the starters suffer some serious food poisoning from the team hotel’s buffet line the night before.

Don’t get any ideas, anyone.

In all seriousness, the Niners are likely to drop to 1-6 in a game that was supposed to be featured in prime time but has instead been flexed back to the afternoon slate of Week 7 contests. L.A. is vastly superior to head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad in every aspect. The Rams defense is significantly better, and McVay’s offense is the envy of the league.

No wonder why Odds Shark lists the Rams as 9.5-point favorites.

But, hey. That was nearly the same spread the Niners had when they traveled to take on the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football in Week 6. And San Francisco almost pulled off the most miraculous of upsets, only to fall 33-30 on a heartbreaking game-winning Packers field goal.

Perhaps the 49ers are able to find some sort of mojo to pull off an improbable victory over their NFC West division rivals.

This isn’t a prediction piece, and the smart money certainly doesn’t go San Francisco’s way. But if the Niners manage to win over the Rams, these will be the three reasons why.
