No. 1: Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon

No. 1 cornerback Richard Sherman has been the best cornerback in the league through the first five weeks of the season, according to Pro Football Focus.

The corner on the other side? Not so much.

Second-year cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, just like his fellow second-year teammates Solomon Thomas and Adrian Colbert, has taken a huge step back this year.

Witherspoon came into this season being heralded as the cornerback of the future by 49ers fans. He definitely looked the part at the end of his rookie season, displaying great coverage skills and causing a couple turnovers.

However, this year he has been targeted by opposing quarterbacks like crazy. Witherspoon has become a huge liability on defense and is looking to be on the path that previous 49ers cornerback Rashard Robinson took the year after his 2016 rookie season.
