NFL power rankings: 32-team overreactions heading into Week 2
By Peter Panacy
The Bears would have won this Sunday Night Football NFC North divisional bout if it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers doing Aaron Rodgers-like things.
There’s no fault in letting a quarterback like Rodgers beat you, so kudos to first-year head coach Matt Nagy for putting his team in an excellent chance to win. Perhaps late in the season, this will be the kind of game Chicago winds up winning. His team is almost there.
And it helps, of course, when newly acquired EDGE Khalil Mack is a virtual wrecking ball throughout the contest.
Mack’s line was nothing short of amazing. He had a sack, recovered a fumble, recorded an interception and ran it in for a touchdown.
Pretty safe to say the Bears are happy he’s in town, and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will love having him terrorize opposing quarterbacks for years down the road.
Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was effective, if not stellar, and took advantage of his two new receiving weapons, Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel, with regularity during the contest. Only Rodgers’ post-injury return and fourth-quarter heroics prevented the Bears from starting off 1-0 this young season.
