Some Clarity at Right Guard

Garnett has only seen limited full-team drills, although that changed on Thursday when he participated in drills with the first unit. Cooper, meanwhile, worked out with the second stringers, according to NBC Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
After practice, Kyle Shanahan told reporters both Garnett and Cooper he expects both players to play this upcoming Saturday.
Based off Thursday’s practice reps, one might assume the Niners start Garnett with the first-team unit, eventually working Cooper in thereafter. It might not necessarily be an indication of the team’s plans in the regular season, as Cooper was just only cleared recently from offseason MCL surgery. But it’s at least a positive for Garnett, whose roster spot in 2018 is anything but guaranteed.
The 49ers will hold a brief walk-through on Friday before Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 8 p.m. ET from NRG Stadium in Houston.
