The San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans held joint training camp practice Wednesday, and a little scuffle between cornerback Jimmie Ward and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins broke out.
The San Francisco 49ers are in Houston this week in advance of their preseason bout with the Texans on Saturday, Aug. 18.
Joint practice sessions between teams has become commonplace in recent seasons, and the two squads are going through two training camp practices before Saturday’s contest. The first, which took place Wednesday, certainly was filled with entertaining instances.
The biggest, of course, was a brief fistfight between Niners defensive back Jimmie Ward and Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
During a one-on-one drill between the two, Ward jammed Hopkins at the line of scrimmage. At one point, Hopkins’ helmet flew off but he still managed to make the catch. The two engaged in a brief punching match before personnel from both sides broke up the fight.
You can catch a glimpse of what happened in the video from Houston’s KPRC TV’s Alex Radow below:
Hopkins was subsequently dismissed from practice, although Ward managed to stay.
It’s not uncommon to see fights break out between teams at these joint practices. Earlier this week, a sizable brawl took place between the New York Jets and Washington Redskins, who were practicing together in northern Virginia.
Who knows? Maybe the more-than-noticeable heat and humidity in Houston forced tempers to flare between Ward and Hopkins.
That wasn’t the only noticeable action from the day, however.
Let’s recap all the action between the 49ers and Texans from Wednesday’s practice, shall we?
