The San Francisco 49ers have had a number of great players to suit up in the red and gold. But many ended up playing elsewhere after establishing themselves as greats. Niner Noise takes a look at 10 49ers, who just don’t look right wearing another NFL jersey.

When one thinks of the San Francisco 49ers, names like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young and Ronnie Lott come to the forefront.

These players, and more, made names for themselves wearing the red and gold uniforms, which paralleled some of the best years in franchise history. It’s impossible to think of their respective careers anywhere else but with the 49ers.

Yet a number of 49ers greats didn’t wind up staying in San Francisco for their entirety.

It was weird to see Montana suit up for the Kansas City Chiefs towards the tail end of his storied career. And it’s equally strange to see former 49ers running back Frank Gore carry the ball for the Indianapolis Colts.

But these players are just a few, to be sure.

So let’s go back and take a look at some notable 49ers, who ended up playing elsewhere outside of San Francisco. And almost all of us should be able to state how odd it is to see these guys wearing anything else but a Niner uniform.
