No. 6: Linebacker Fred Warner Causes a Kerfuffle

Rookie linebacker Fred Warner (chest) was supposed to be limited the last two days of practice this week, but that didn’t stop him from making a pretty big splash play.

Warner, whose collegiate coverage skills make him a unique commodity in today’s pass-happy NFL, placed a massive hit on fullback Kyle Juszczyk during Wednesday’s practice. Juszczyk had the wind knocked out of him, and the aftermath resulted in a brief scrum, of which Niner Noise’s Aaron Tan recapped in his post-camp review.

Tan didn’t see the play, but it apparently led to the short fight off to the side.

Alas, little came of it, but it did catch the attention of some 49ers veterans.

“That guy knows how to hit,” tight end Garrett Celek told 49ers.com’s Joe Fann afterwards. And with Warner’s physicality one of his question marks coming out of college, the ability to play so physical at this point should be a good sign moving forward.
