The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their second week of training camp on Friday, and Niner Noise breaks down the top 10 takeaways from the week’s action.

Week 2 of the San Francisco 49ers‘ 2018 version of training camp is in the books, and the Niners will enjoy a much-needed players’ day off on Saturday, Aug. 4 before resuming activities the following Sunday.

The first week of camp was interesting, to say the least, with cornerback Richard Sherman donning pads for the first time since injuring his Achilles last year with the Seattle Seahawks. He had some question marks early in camp before showcasing why he’s, well… Sherman.

Related note, Sherman suffered an apparent hamstring injury on day eight, although indications are that it’s not serious.

But like any given football week, the first week’s efforts matter little. Like games, the NFL is a “what have you done for me lately?” kind of league. All that matters now is what the Niners did in Week 2 of training camp.

There have been some standouts, for sure. And yet there have been injuries, question marks and problems too.

Let’s start off on the negative side, as Niner Noise breaks down the top 10 biggest takeaways from Week 2 of training camp.

No. 10: The 49ers Have Gotten Sloppy This Week

Days seven and eight of training camp weren’t particularly crisp.

Last Thursday, a majority of the veterans were given the day off, so a rough-looking practice would have made sense. Still, Niners Wire’s Chris Biderman phrased the session by saying, “It was sloppy. Players looked lethargic.”

A day or two of that, here and there, is to be expected. It’s the summer months, and players are returning from roughly 40 days away from NFL activities.

Yet that sluggish and sloppy trend continued into Friday’s practice, however, and prompted some action from 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan (h/t Jennifer Lee Chan of Niners Nation):

It appears as if an occasional “swift kick in the pants” has its positive effects.
