The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up day seven of 2018 training camp. To little surprise, Niners wide receivers were impressive again, but so was cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.

Earlier this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers‘ crop of wide receivers might have been viewed as one of the team’s primary weaknesses. After all, the Niners lacked any of the big-name guys many other playoff-caliber squads boast. Heading into 2018, Pro Football Focus ranked San Francisco’s wideouts No. 24 in the NFL.

During training camp, however, it’s been hard to match that rating to what’s been on display.

Such was the case again on day seven of camp, Thursday, Aug. 2 despite Niners Wire’s Chris Biderman calling the day “sloppy,” which may be attributed to a number of veterans getting the day off.

A year after posting career highs in both receptions (56) and receiving yards (962), five-year veteran Marquise Goodwin continued his standout camp efforts.

Goodwin has been almost impossible to cover at camp, using his Olympic-level speed to easily burn past defensive backs with relative ease. During on of Thursday’s one-on-one drills, Goodwin easily beat cornerback Greg Mabin for a 30-yard reception (h/t Niners Wire’s Rob Lowder):

Last week, Goodwin beat three-time first-team All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman in a similar drill, causing quite a stir. And while Sherman is yet to go at 100 percent (it was only his first day in padded practice since rupturing his Achilles with the Seattle Seahawks last year), one can see the sheer speed Goodwin brings to the table.

Goodwin figures to be the Niners’ No. 2 wide receiver opposite the veteran, Pierre Garçon, this upcoming season. And while Goodwin had yet another solid day at camp, he wasn’t the only receiver to stand out from Thursday’s practice.
