No. 7: It’s Going to Be Tough to Keep Richie James Off the 53-Man Roster

Speaking of James, he’s been a training camp standout for the 49ers so far.

James had that grab from C.J. Beathard early in camp, and the former Middle Tennessee State receiver had other multiple grabs over the remaining practices.

Including this one, which showcased James’ strength against press coverage:

Seventh-round draft picks always have a tough road to cracking the 53-man roster their rookie seasons. Combine that with an already deep crop of 49ers wide receivers, and James’ placement on the 53 is anything but guaranteed.

So far, though, James is doing everything he can to ensure he’ll make the cut.

And the Niners might be better off giving him a shot anyway, based off the early results in camp so far.
