The San Francisco 49ers kicked off training camp last week, and Niner Noise breaks down the top 10 takeaways from the first week’s session. What stood out in particular?

The 2018 offseason is finally over, and the San Francisco 49ers have resumed training camp activities in preparation for the upcoming season.

Practices officially started on Thursday, with the team’s first padded practice kicking off Saturday. And while a good chunk of attention was given to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and rightfully so, a number of other players also stood out for all the right reasons.

The Niners defense won the first day, although head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense bounced back nicely on day two. On day three, Shanahan thought it was the most balanced practice yet, via 49ers Webzone’s David Bonilla. And, finally, Sunday’s practice saw…

With a day off on Monday, the first week of 49ers practice is in the books.

Niner Noise goes back over these first four practices and breaks down the top 10 takeaways from the first week.

No. 10: Reuben Foster Feels Pretty Lucky

Second-year linebacker Reuben Foster had a tumultuous offseason, to say the least.

Arrested twice and charged with multiple felonies, Foster was in serious jeopardy of not only being dismissed by the 49ers but, perhaps, being out of the NFL completely.

“It made me appreciate football a lot better,” Foster said, via NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco. “It was crazy, knowing that football can be gone. Being back on this field with my brothers and these coaches, man, is a blessing.”

All but one of Foster’s offseason charges were dropped, aside from a weapons charge that was downgraded to a misdemeanor.

Foster will be suspended for the first two games of 2018. But given the nature of the initial charges, one has to see his situation this season as a blessing.

Keeping Foster on the field will be crucial to the 49ers’ efforts. After missing six games last year with injury, the Niners are looking to teach the talented linebacker tackling techniques that use less shoulder and more arms, per former KNBR 680 insider Kevin Jones.

And by all accounts, Foster has been flying around the field all training camp.
