After months of waiting, the San Francisco 49ers finally kick off training camp for 2018 this week. Niner Noise breaks down everything you’ll need to know for this crucial event.
Alas, it’s finally here. The San Francisco 49ers start training camp for the upcoming 2018 season on Wednesday, July 25.
That’s when players report. Actual on-field activities begin the following day.
Heading into 2018, head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad has emerged as one of the NFL’s leading storylines. While a 6-10 record a year ago is nothing to brag about, the majority of pundits’ focus has been on how the Niners finished — a five-game win streak.
Much of that, of course, was thanks to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and how he helped turn Shanahan’s offense from a scuffling, inconsistent unit to one of the more effective offenses down the 2017 stretch.
On a positive note, Garoppolo won’t be working with a limited knowledge of Shanahan’s playbook any longer. But on the other hand, the 49ers aren’t flying under the radar either.
All this figures to lead into a pretty entertaining 2018 season for the red and gold. And it’s been a while since Niners fans have felt this excited about an upcoming campaign.
Since training camp is so important — the pads come on, after all — Niner Noise breaks down every bit of information you’ll need to know for the next few weeks before San Francisco kicks off the preseason on Aug. 9 versus the Dallas Cowboys.
We’ll look at specific dates on the practice schedule, how you can attend some games, key position battles to watch and the various other bits of news and analysis to prep you for training camp.
Speaking of those dates…
