Running Backs on the 49ers Roster

With the first two positions on the depth chart pretty much penciled in, the team hasn’t bothered with many undrafted free agents, only opting for former North Texas back Jeff Wilson

Aside from the names mentioned before, the team welcomes back Jeremy McNichols. The former fifth-round rookie to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was signed to the 49ers practice squad last season.

As such, the team currently has the following running backs on its roster:

  • Matt Breida
  • Jerick McKinnon
  • Jeremy McNichols
  • Raheem Mostert
  • Joe Williams
  • Jeff Wilson*

The third running back spot, at least initially, will be between Williams and Mostert. But McNichols or Wilson could be under consideration if they demonstrate a talent for special teams.

Will there be a chance at a fourth running back making the roster? It seems unlikely as none of the above are likely to be returning for the 49ers.
