Richard Sherman

You might be asking yourself, how can cornerback Richard Sherman be one of the biggest stars of OTAs if he’s not actually practicing?

Well that’s because he has since picked up another name around the 49ers practice field, “coach Sherman.”

Sherman is one of the best cornerbacks to ever play in the NFL, and it just so happens the 49ers have adopted the very same defensive scheme Sherman ran in Seattle. A system that he has excelled at for the last seven seasons.

He now brings that knowledge over to the Niners, who have a very young and talented secondary. So young, in fact, the average age of the projected starting group outside of Sherman is 25 years old.

Showing the type of professional that Sherman is, he is using his time away from practicing to act as a second coach on the field. 49ers own team reporter Keiana Martin was on hand at OTAs to catch a first hand glimpse of the value that Sherman is bringing to this young squad:

Sherman has already earned the respect of his fellow teammates, and that speaks volumes about the type of player and the type of value that he brings to this football team. Defensive end DeForest Buckner was asked about his thoughts on Sherman and, in the video below, you can see the type of impact Sherman makes:

Although it’s still early in the year and the pads have not yet come on, Sherman has proven to already be a star for the 49ers organization.
