The San Francisco 49ers have just wrapped up their second NFL Draft under the John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan regime. Niner Noise recaps the 2018 event with the Niners’ best, worst and potential sleeper picks.

The San Francisco 49ers have finished the last major stretch of bolstering up their roster through the 2018 NFL Draft. San Francisco selected nine total players, kicked off with Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey in the first round:

  1. OT Mike McGlinchey (Notre Dame)
  2. WR Dante Pettis (Washington)
  3. LB Fred Warner (BYU)
  4. DB Tarvarius Moore (Southern Mississippi)
  5. DT Kentavius Street (NC State)
  6. CB D.J. Reed (Kansas State)
  7. S Marcell Harris (Florida)
  8. DT Jullian Taylor (Temple)
  9. WR Richie James (Middle Tennessee State)

McGlinchey’s selection was initially a surprise, considering the Niners had offensive tackles Joe Staley and Trent Brown in place. However, with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan moving Brown to the New England Patriots and considering Staley’s age, the pick made sense.

Day two saw the 49ers draft three potential plug-and-play starters in Washington wide receiver Dante Pettis, BYU linebacker Fred Warner and Southern Mississippi defensive back Tarvarius Moore.

Pettis is an athletic pass catcher with excellent route-running skills that are ideal under Shanahan’s offense. In addition, Pettis should be an integral piece to San Francisco’s special teams unit as a kick and punt returner.

With Reuben Foster‘s current legal situation and a lack of depth at the position, Warner should help the second level of the defense right off the bat. And, Moore should also make an immediate impact in the secondary with his coverage and playmaking abilities.

Lastly, the 49ers acquired five players in day three, starting with NC State defensive tackle Kentavius Street in the fourth round.

San Francisco then added two pieces to its secondary with Kansas State’s D.J. Reed and Florida’s Marcell Harris in the fifth and sixth rounds, respectively. The Niners finalized their 2018 draft class with Temple defensive tackle Jullian Taylor and Middle Tennessee State wideout Richie James in the seventh round.

Among the list of draftees from San Francisco, let’s take a look at the best, worst and sleeper picks.
