San Francisco 49ers: Ranking the 5 biggest NFL Draft position needs

2. Guard

Jonathan Cooper is a nice signing that could pan out, but that doesn’t preclude the 49ers from taking a guard pair with him.

Quenton Nelson could be gone, but if he does fall to the 49ers he should be immediately selected. I’ve written before about my love for Nelson and how he would be an immediate upgrade at the position protecting Jimmy Garoppolo and blasting open running lanes for Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida, and that hasn’t changed.

Blocking is so important, and Nelson is the best overall football player in this draft not named Saquon Barkley. There should be no hesitation.
