There’s a lot yet to take place for the San Francisco 49ers between now and training camp 2018. But let’s take an early look at what some of the best position battles could be.

The San Francisco 49ers were moderately active in free agency and still have the 2018 NFL Draft to prepare for this April.

With training camp some months away, we have no exact clue what additional players will be added to the roster after the draft and subsequent undrafted-player signing period. A year ago, head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. implemented plenty of competition between rookies, incumbents and free-agent pickups.

This year, things could be slightly different.

A number of players have bona fide roles. There’s no quarterback competition, after the Niners made Jimmy Garoppolo the highest-paid player in the NFL earlier this offseason. His backup, C.J. Beathard, has all but locked up the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.

From what we know now, though, let’s take a shot at some early predictions for what the best camp-competition battles will be heading into the 2018 regular season.
