San Francisco 49ers: Rethinking 2018 NFL Draft big board after free agency
The San Francisco 49ers still have a few holes to fill after the 2018 NFL free agency. Niner Noise revisits the team’s positional needs and big boards heading into the upcoming NFL Draft.
In comparison to last year, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was not quite as active during the 2018 NFL free agency.
Because Lynch and his staff were taking over the post-Trent Baalke era, the front office needed to make numerous changes. The 49ers had more issues to address back in 2017, including the lack of a franchise quarterback.
After acquiring QB Jimmy Garoppolo in the middle of the 2017 regular season, San Francisco headed into the 2018 offseason focusing on other positional needs.
Some key free agents the Niners acquired in free agency include cornerback Richard Sherman, center Weston Richburg and running back Jerick McKinnon. The 49ers also signed EDGE Jeremiah Attaochu and punter Jeff Locke and re-signed linebacker Brock Coyle.
Despite these players filling in some gaps, San Francisco still has a lot of work to do during the draft. With their nine total picks, Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan are not only looking to improve their overall roster, but also to successfully follow up their impressive 2017 rookie class.
As the 2018 NFL Draft draws closer, here are the top five positional needs the 49ers should prioritize. Additionally, Niner Noise lists a few players Lynch and Shanahan might draft in certain rounds for each position.
