No. 5: Tight End Austin Seferian-Jenkins

This signing isn’t just a good one for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ football team. It’s also a Cinderella story.

Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went on to play decently for two seasons. However, on Sept. 23, 2016, Seferian-Jenkins was arrested on a DUI charge and consequently released by the Buccaneers. In May 2017, he confessed he had been dealing with alcohol issues for the majority of his lifetime and had started to rehab. The New York Jets took a chance on him and signed him to a one-year prove-it deal, where he played tremendously and proved to be a top-notch red-zone target with his 6-foot-6, 260 pound frame.

And now Seferian-Jenkins is signed to a two-year, $10 million contract with the Jaguars. From dealing with alcohol issues to signing a decent contract with a Super Bowl contender in less than a year is nothing short of amazing.

With wide receiver Allen Robinson out of the picture for the Jaguars, the team somewhat fills his absence with Seferian-Jenkins, who is a very solid receiving threat. Blake Bortles now has a new safety blanket.
