San Francisco 49ers: Pros & cons for signing cornerback Richard Sherman
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly courting free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman. Niner Noise explores both sides of a possible pairing between the two sides this offseason.
Imagine pondering this thought back in 2014 — the San Francisco 49ers sign cornerback Richard Sherman.
Sounds disgusting, right? After all, Sherman was villain No. 1 for the Niners Faithful ever since he tipped former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s pass for wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the waning seconds of the 2014 NFC Championship game.
And, of course, all the drama and rants that ensured shortly thereafter.

Now, there appears to be a real chance the 49ers are luring in Sherman after the Seattle Seahawks released him on Friday. Seriously.
Later that night, The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson reported Sherman and his wife met with San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan for dinner in Los Gatos, California:
"According to somebody who was at the restaurant, Shanahan dined with Sherman and his wife at Nick’s Next Door restaurant in Los Gatos tonight. It seems the courting may have already begun."
Well now.
Let’s ignore the dislike many Niners fans probably have for Sherman for a moment and explore the other question.
Is Sherman a good target for San Francisco?
We’ll explore both sides of the question in this article, starting off with why it makes a lot of sense.
