No. 1: EDGE Harold Landry (Boston College)

This. Just seeing this statement by edge defender Harold Landry made me convinced that he belongs on this team.

The 49ers need a pass rush after the defensive line disappointed with just 30 sacks in the 2017 season, and Landry definitely brings that outside force. I called him Hercules Mata’afa (a very good pass-rushing prospect in this year’s draft) on steroids in my edge rusher big board.

But more importantly, this public statement by Landry just makes me think that he is perfect for this new regime that both John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have started.

This new regime changed the culture of the team, telling the players that there wasn’t going to be any more BS from the Trent Baalke era. The team started playing with passion and respect for the game once Lynch and Kyle Shanahan stepped into the team building. There was this new aura of competitiveness and winning in Santa Clara.

Landry fits this kind of personality and mindset that the 49ers are looking for and building in this new era.

Call me crazy, but I am so confident that the front office likes Landry a lot that I fully expect the team to trade down in the draft and pick Landry.
