No. 4: Connor Williams, Offensive Tackle, Texas

It’s pretty fair to say offensive tackle Connor Williams has quite a bit of hype coming in the draft, some going so far to say he could be the first Texas Longhorn to crack the top 10 of the NFL Draft since quarterback Vince Young and safety Michael Huff did so in 2006.

However it does seem that Williams could be slightly overhyped.

His 2017 was limited by injury, and people didn’t like what they saw when he was on the field. Cited was his lack of strength and struggles against defenses, with one NFL team personnel executive saying:

"I heard all about how good he was last year and then I turned on the tape and what I saw wasn’t a first-rounder at all. I can go back to 2016, but who is he now? I have to know who he is and who he’s going to be in three to five years. Scouting is projecting."

There are some definite questions about Williams which could be a problem because if the 49ers desire a tackle they could go for Notre Dame’s Mike McGlinchey, who has far fewer questions about his suitability at tackle.

Williams should still be a first-round pick, but he might not be worth a top-10 pick.
